A RUN OF SALMON

THE GIFT CARD PROJECT

A charity project and a social experiment.

The cards all start with $0. A recipient of the card may scan the QR code on the back of the card, and for each user that scans the code, our organization will add $1 from project funds into the value of the card.

When someone receives the card, there will be no indication at all of the value that has been accumulated inside the card. They will have the option to use the card on whatever they wish, as long as the purchase amount does not exceed the amount stored in the card. However, they will be prompted to pass on the card instead, in hopes that it will arrive in the hands of someone in need.

The experiment is to see what purchases the people in our communities end up using the card for. Will items purchased be necessities? How much greed and how much generosity is there in our society?

But the bigger goal of this project is to promote the idea of charity with-in a community. The aim is to bring the act of giving into practice, and encourage giving and interaction between strangers. The idea of the anonymous giver is preserved with this gift card – no one will know if you used the money in the card before you passed it on, and no one will find out if you didn’t. It will be a true act of generosity, without the promise of recognition.

THE GIFT CARD PROJECT

"Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out."
